Welcome to tanushsaran.com, a website conceived, designed and built by Tanush Saran. Below, I lay out what the site keeps about you, the terms it runs on, how it works for everyone, and how it is made. Contact me if you have any questions.
Privacy
The short version
- This is my personal website, run by me from Utah, USA.
- Visits are counted, by Vercel's analytics and by the site's own record, with no cookies and nothing tied to your IP address. There is no advertising, no tracking across sites and no third-party scripts.
- Vercel hosts the site and handles ordinary request details, as any web host does.
- A contact form message goes to my email and nowhere else.
- Your display choices stay in your own browser, on your device.
Hosting
Vercel serves the site. Like any web host, it handles each request you make, including your IP address and browser details, and keeps standard request logs on its side.
Analytics
The site counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics, so I can see how people find it and what they read. Each page view records the page, the site that sent you, your approximate location (country, region and city), and your browser, operating system and kind of device. It sets no cookies and is not tied to your IP address. Vercel tells visits apart with a hash of the request and discards it after 24 hours, so the count does not follow you from one day to the next or to other sites. I see the figures only as totals.
The site's own record
The site also keeps its own record of how it is used, in a database of mine. For each page it notes when it was opened, how you arrived (including the site or link that sent you), your screen size, language and display choices, what you open and press (a project, the Console, a menu, a setting, a link to another site), how long the page stays in view and how far it is read, and any error the site runs into, with where it happened. Your approximate location (country, region and city) and your browser, operating system and kind of device are read from the request. Your IP address is not stored. Each visit gets a random number, kept in your browser tab's session storage and gone when the tab closes, so the pages of one visit can be read together; nothing links one visit to another. Nothing you type is recorded, and a contact message is recorded only as having been sent. I use the record to see how the site is used and to fix what breaks.
Your browser
The site keeps a few things in your browser's own storage. They stay on your device. They are your display choices (light, dark or black mode, motion, cursor and similar settings from the Panel), and the last weather reading, kept for 30 minutes so the corner can paint at once. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them. Two more items exist only for me: a mark that tells my own visits apart, and a sign-in session for a private area.
Weather
The corner shows the local weather. Your browser asks the site's own server, which chooses the place in this order: your coordinates, if you have already allowed location access for this site in your browser (the site never asks for that permission itself); otherwise the approximate city inferred from your request; otherwise the city of your timezone. The server rounds coordinates to about a kilometre and asks Open-Meteo, a weather service, for the current temperature. Your IP address is not sent to Open-Meteo, and nothing is kept.
Contact form
The form collects your name, email address and message. They are sent by email to me through Resend, an email delivery service, and I use them only to read and reply. They are never sold, shared or added to any list. To slow spam, the server briefly counts how many messages arrive from one IP address within a few minutes, and keeps that count only in memory. A hidden field catches bots.
Private area and Orson
There is a private sign-in for me alone. Visitors have no accounts. If someone enters an email address there, it goes to the sign-in provider, Supabase, so a code can be emailed. No account is created for anyone else. The box called Orson is not connected to anything yet. What is typed there is checked in your browser and is not sent anywhere.
Other sites
On the Work page, some projects show their live site inside a window, loaded only when you open it. Those sites are my own projects, with their own policies and cookies. Links to the App Store and other sites take you away from this one.

Accessibility
The short version
- Much of the site works from the keyboard, and Esc closes things.
- Holding ⌘⌥ (Ctrl+Alt on Windows) shows every key the site answers to.
- The Panel offers light, dark and black modes, and a Motion & Physics setting whose Still position stops all animation and physics.
- The site follows your system's reduce-motion setting.
- If something gets in your way, tell me through the Contact page.
Standard
I measure the site against WCAG 2.2 level AA. Body text meets its contrast standard; a few small labels are fainter by design. Controls have text labels for screen readers.
Known gaps
- The drawn objects and the dot field are canvas drawings. They are decorative and are not described in detail to screen readers.
- The Mathematics models are visual first.
- Touch gestures on some maps may not work on every device.
AI
I don't know what AI will become. Nobody does. But I use it. It has let me work on things I couldn't have done alone, this site among them, and some days that's sick. Other days it frightens me.
